Muscat: Stress was laid on the need for fixed prices of petroleum products at a meeting of a committee of the Majlis Al Shura.
The Adhoc Committee for Addressing Implications of Economic Crisis and its Effects on the Omani Society at Majlis Al Shura on Wednesday held its third regular meeting of the 2nd annual sitting (2016/2017) of the 8th term (2015 - 2019) under the chair of Sheikh Jamal bin Ahmed Al Abri, Deputy Head of the Committee.
The Committee stressed the need to find a fixed price for petroleum products in line with needs and situations of citizens.
They affirmed that the Government has to bear the difference in pricing, calling on the concerned authorities to amend the decision of the monthly petroleum products pricing.
The team’s members pointed to the vulnerability of the citizens as a result of new fuel prices for the current month, such as owners of private vehicles, taxis and some trailers, which in turn leads to a rise in other basic services.
The team’s members also stressed the need to find government alternative means for transportation in the face of rising fuel prices due to their great importance in the provision of fuel consumption.
On the other hand, the team reviewed the final recommendations of the Committee’s report in terms of reformulating and resorted such recommendations. -ONA
