Oman tennis: Fatma Al Nabhani reaches doubles quarters in Egypt

Muscat: Omani star Fatma Al Nabhani advanced to the doubles quarterfinals of the $15,000 ITF Pro Circuit Cairo tournament in Egypt on Tuesday.
Fatma, who is taking part in the second of the back-to-back $15,000 Cairo tournaments, teamed up well with local girl Sandra Samir to defeat Petia Arshinko of Bulgaria and Serbian Bojana Marinkovic in a closely contested first round match.
Third seeds Fatma and Sandra, however, had to thwart a late fightback by their opponents before recording a 6-4, 7-6 (6) victory.
In the last eight stage, Fatma and Sandra will take on German duo of Karolina Kowall and Dana Kremer.
Karolina and Dana advanced to the quarterfinals after receiving a walkover from their first round opponents Carlota Molina Megias of Spain and Anastasia Yakimova of Belarus.
Fatma is scheduled to start her singles campaign on Wednesday when the fourth seeded Omani will take on Egyptian qualifier Rowan Arafat.
In the first Cairo tournament, which concluded last weekend, Fatma and Sandra finished runners-up to Ayaka Okuno of Japan and Chantal Skamlova of Slovakia. In the singles, Fatma had last in the quarterfinals.
