Muscat: There were 43,858 job-seekers in Oman at the end of 2016, according to the data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information ( NCSI).
A majority of job-seekers were in the age group 25 to 29 years and most of them were college graduates, according to the statistics.
The number of job-seekers increased by 0. 1 per cent up to end of December 2016 ( 15, 831 males and 28,027 females) against November of the same year.
The job-seekers number stood at 20,869 within the age group of 25 to 29 years, followed by the age group 18 to 24 years (12,700), while the number stood at 7,231 for the age group 30 to 34 years and 2,735 for the age group 35 to 39 years and 323 job seekers in the age group of more than 40 years.
The number of job-seekers who hold college degrees stood at 16,094 at end of December 2016, followed by holders of general education diploma ( 13,643), university diploma holder ( 8,368) and 5,657 were holders of certificate below the general education diploma. The number of holders of masters and doctorate degrees stood at 96 job-seekers.
The governorate–wise number of job-seekers is as follows; North Al Batinah (9,544), Muscat (5,359), South Al Batinah (5,132), Al Dakhiliyah (5,025), Dhofar (4,521), Al Dhahirah (3,750), North Al Sharqiyah (2,994), Al Buraimi (1,684), Musandam (794) and Al Wusta (346).
