#OmanPride: Authors invited to submit their work for inclusion in Oman libraries

MUSCAT: Authors and writers are encouraged to submit their publications to the National Youth Committee (NYC) by the end of January 2017 so that their work stands a chance for a place in the Sultanate’s libraries.
The Omani Book Support Programme is open for writers to register and submit their publications. This will be considered for distribution among the libraries. However, the NYC is giving priorityto scientific, translated and intellectual books and first-time authors.
Children’s literature is also part of the programme.
“Over the past four to five years, we have accepted a lot of literature in English and Arabic. This year, we are focusing on scientific books. Education is an integral part of the Omani society and this year it is fitting to accord priority to such books,” said the NYC.
Only 20 books will be selected for purchase from authors and distribution in public libraries.
“We will buy around 300 copies and distribute them among the libraries. The author would also need to attend the signing ceremony during the Muscat International Book Fair 2017 if his or her books are chosen,” said the NYC.
In order to become eligible, the publication must be dated between February 2014 and February 2017. Only Omanis between 15 years and 39 years of age can apply.
“If the author is currently 40, for example, but had his book published in February 2014, then that makes him 38 years old that year, which makes him eligible for the programme,” explained the NYC.
“Those aspiring to become writers and authors must work hard to achieve their goal and if anyone has a publication, do not hesitate and apply under this programme. It is an opportunity that cannot be missed,” advised the NYC.
