Oman's private sector issues, labour policies to be discussed by State Council

Muscat: Challenges facing the private sector and the labour market policies will be discussed by the State Council on Tuesday.
The Council will hold its fourth meeting of the second annual sitting of the sixth term under the chair of Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council on Tuesday.
The agenda of the meeting includes an opening speech by the Chairman of the State Council and approval of the minutes of the third meeting of the second annual sitting of the sixth term.
The Council will also discuss the report of the economic committee on the challenges facing the private sector and the labour market policies.
It will also discuss the desire of the culture, media and tourism committee to study ‘traditional crafts between reality and aspiration’, during this annual session of the Council.
The Council will also review the report presented by Dr Suad bint Mohammed Al Lawatiya on the State Council’s delegation participation in the World Summits for the Chairpersons of the Parliaments, which was held in Abu Dhabi on December 12 and 13 last year.

Meanwhile, the Council Chairman received yesterday at the State Council Meetings Hall in Al Bustan members of the General Federation of Oman Trade Union (GFOTU) led by Nabhan bin Ahmed Al Batashi, Chairman of the Union.
The Chairman of State Council highlighted the role of GFOTU in protecting the rights of labors and maintaining their benefits. He hailed the achievements made by GFOTU as one of the tripartite stakeholders namely the government, the employers and
employees.
He added that dialogue among these parties to reach suitable solutions for all production issues is a good approach and will contribute to achieving the comprehensive development and realizing the aims of the government; generate more job opportunities and enhance career stability. On his part, GFOTU Chairman highlighted the importance of social dialogue among production stakeholders in ensuring career stability and increasing production.
He pointed out to the important role played by laws and legislations in achieving this aim.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the State Council, as well as Musalam bin Ali Al Maashani and Eng. Khalfan bin Saleh Al Naabi.
