Oman football: Mali await Oman in CISM World Cup quarterfinals

Muscat: Mali played a goalless draw against Qatar in a crucial Group C match of the ongoing CISM World Cup Football Championship at the Seeb Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The result helped the West African side earn five points from three matches and occupy the second place in the group behind Qatar, who garnered seven points from their three outings.
Mali will now await hosts and Group A toppers Oman in the quarterfinals to be played on Tuesday while Qatar will lock horns with Bahrain, who finished second in Group A.
Unbeaten Oman advanced to the last eight stage after a thrilling 3-2 win over France in their final group match against France on Friday.
In another Group C match played on Saturday, Ireland routed the U.S. by a 6-1 margin. But their effort went in vain as they finished third in the group with four points.
In a Group D match played on Saturday, Syria and Egypt played out a goalless draw and qualified for the quarterfinals the former as group toppers with seven points and the latter as the second placed team with five points.
In another Group D match, Poland thrashed Canada 6-1 to finish third in the group with four points.
In the last eight matches, Group B toppers Algeria take on Egypt while Germany, the second placed team from Group B, will take on Syria.
