Muscat: A new section of the Batinah expressway will be opened by the Ministry of Transport and Communications today.
This 18 km section starts at Al-Aqeer/Al-Wajajah Road intersection and continues until the end of the road in Khutmat Al Milahah in Shinas. With four lanes on each side, it has 3m wide external shoulders, 2m wide internal shoulders and four flyovers connecting the current Batinah dual carriageway to villages and mountain regions. It also has 65 box culverts for flood water and wadi drainage besides truck weighing stations. It has lit safety signs, safety accessories, iron fences and concrete barriers.
The Ministry aims to open another 45km portion soon, which starts from the Baraka/Nakhel intersection and continues to Al-Hazzem in the Wellayat of Al-Rustaq.
With the opening of these sections in the Batinah expressway, the total length of the opened portions will reach more than 80Km of the 272km of the project.
