100 child abuse cases reported in Oman

Muscat: Around 100 children in Oman called the child protection hotline in six months of 2016, according to an official at the Ministry of Social Development.
Most reports were about being sexually harassed by a relative.
The Ministry of Social Development launched the free 24/7 hotline on Wednesday under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed Al Kalbani, minister of social development. The hotline was soft-launched in 2015.
"The ministry received at least 100 calls and the number is expected to rise this year following our social media campaign," Shamsa Al Hajri, from the family protection department of the ministry told the Times of Oman.
