#OmanPride: Placido Domingo returns to Royal Opera House Muscat

Muscat: Look forward to another season with Placido Domingo, as he returns to the Royal Opera House Muscat after his stellar performances as a tenor and conductor of opera in ROHM’s inaugural season.
Superstar Domingo will first perform at a gala concert with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Brescia and Bergamo Festival conducted by Eugene Kohn on January 11.
Later on January 13, Maestro Domingo will conduct the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra (ROSO) in a sparkling evening of beautiful symphonic works. The concert programme will feature the first piano concerto by Tchailkovsky with the exceptionally talented pianist, Beatrice Rana.
Once part of the immensely popular Three Tenors with Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras, Placido Domingo reigns today as a solo superstar and is arguably the most famous living tenor in the world.
He has sung over a hundred operas and is well known for his versatility, regularly performing in Italian, French, German, Spanish, English and Russian.
With a phenomenal work ethic, Domingo has played 143 roles, performed more than 3,632 times and conducted almost 500 concerts.
During his 2011 visit to Oman, he commented, “I think of music-making as one single activity. Whether I am singing as a tenor, or now, occasionally, as a baritone; whether I am singing opera or concert music or zarzuelas or lighter music; whether I am conducting or coaching or even just listening to others perform – all of these things are part of a whole.
“Of course singing and conducting require a lot of mental, physical, and spiritual commitment. You have to put all your skill and also all of your inner being into your work all the time. Otherwise you cannot do your best.”
They will sing arias from famous composers of opera such as Verdi, Wagner and Massenet, as well as popular favourites from around the world including songs from famous Broadway shows such as My Fair Lady. This performance at the ROHM by one of the greatest tenors in the modern history of opera is not to be missed.
