Bloom time

They've been called Hollywood's most beautiful couple but recently rumours began to spread that the marriage of supermodel Miranda Kerr and  star Orlando Bloom was in trouble after Miranda was seen around town without a wedding ring and Orlando was tight-lipped about the state of their relationship.

Now the couple, who have a two-year-old son, Flynn, are telling everyone that things have never been better between them — and proved it by appearing at a pre-Oscar party, as one guest described it "completely loved-up and with eyes for no-one but each other."

"I don't know where these stories come from," Orlando, 36, says. And stunning 29-year-old Australian Victoria's Secret model Miranda adds: "Orlando has been on location for the next two Hobbit movies but we still find time to be together as a family."
With the next two Hobbit movies completed and six months before the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie goes before the cameras — he plays blacksmith Will Turner — Orlando plans to make up for his absences with plenty of family time.

"I'm just a respectable married man nowadays," he smiles  — very different from a few years ago when he was Hollywood's most eligible bachelor with a list celebrity conquests including Kate Bosworth, Kirsten Dunst, Sienna Miller and Claire Danes.

Looking back, Orlando says: "I guess I was looking for a girl with kindness, generosity, a sweet nature, thoughtfulness, a good sense of humour — and preferably good-looking. — and I've certainly found them all in Miranda!

"Life has been fantastic this last few years. I'm riding this really big wave, career wise, right now. I'm just trying to hold tight for dear life and not fall off!

"Everything I seem to do lately has swords in it," he says. "Now I have these skills, like archery and sword-fighting, which are useless in everyday life!"

Orlando also has the reputation of being one of the most accident-prone of stars — not long after breaking his leg in a motorcycle crash, he was told he might never walk again after falling three floors and breaking his back.

"I fell off a drainpipe while climbing up to a friend's flat," he admits. "For four days I had to face the fact that I might spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Then they operated and I walked out of hospital after just 12 days."

"I had two plates fitted either side of my spine and and four bolts in a four-hour operation. I was told not to do action sports in future, but I'm afraid I took no notice," he admits.
He regularly does what he calls "stupid and crazy things" like bungee jumping, surfing, snowboarding and skydiving. "I suppose I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie," he says.

Orlando  says he was "a fearless kid" when growing up in the English cathedral city of Canterbury. He left school at 16 and travelled to London determined to become an actor.
"I realised that I would have to get training and eventually went to drama school for three years. I have never really responded to teaching but I obviously managed to learn something."

Two days after leaving, Orlando attended a Lord of the Rings audition. "I hadn't a hope of getting anything and just went to find out what auditions were like."
He failed the test for the role of  Faramir but later read for the part of Legolas, and was immediately successful.

"It was the opportunity of a lifetime," Orlando says. "It's been the best time ever and a life-changing experience working with some of the best actors in the business."

Working for 18 months in New  Zealand on the three Lord of the Rings  movies was certainly a baptism of fire for Orlando. "We worked very long hours and I did nine weeks of night shoots.

"I made some really good friends on that movie," he says
With three more movies in the pipeline, a new Hollywood mansion to move into, and a holiday in Hawaii scheduled for next month, there doesn't seem much immediate chance of  marriage problems.( John Graham/Tony James Features)
